Eufemio's castle - Calatafimi

Regarding his curious name, the story is lost between fantasy and truth: according to one version it seems to originate from a legend in which Eufemio is said to have been the name of the man who facilitated the conquest of the Muslim troops on the Segesta territory and then built Kalat-al-Fimi, today's Calatafimi.

Another version says that it means "Castle of Fimi" or "of Eufemio", i.e. the name of the nobleman and owner of the nearby suburb "Longarico" today Alcamo. Another source states that the castle stands on the rocky traces of an ancient fort owned by a certain Diocle known as "Phimeis", who also gave its name to the current Calatafimi.
